My name is Chante Brigitte. I lived In A small City in Haiti Called Port-au-Prince. I grew Up with Six brothers and sisters.
My parents had No money to raise us, both passed away a few Years ago. I was forced to raise my brothers and sisters. I knew it was an opportunity to make my late parents proud. After A while I knew it was okay for me to leave and come to a Land of opportunity and help further my family's education. MY youngest Sister was 12 and the eldest was 19. They could at that time take care of themselves. I was 21 and knew that coming to America would be a struggle. But it was a Chance I was willing to take. As I headed on the First ship to Pétionville, I could feel butterflies in my stomach. I never encountered that feeling before. I stepped on to the boat, and the smell was very horrific, Like an old sock or Rotten Mildew. So Many people were on it. The Ride took 5 days with a few things to eat such as crackers and water. Afterwards I felt malnourished. They dropped us off at the Nearest River Canal. At least that was what I thought it was called. I kept thinking about my siblings; how were they? Were they eating? Did they Miss Me? As we heard the next ship coming, everybody struggled to get the best seats. But not me. All I wanted was make it safely. Not really Worrying on the comfort. That bus Took six days. I started To rethink Everything. Was This really worth it? But after all it was all for the better. I struggled and went through things that I had never experienced. When Finally I came to America I Started Going to school. And I had to learn to Adapt to Getting Up early. And Now at the Age Of 25, My hard Work and self confidence Helped Me become a successful Petroleum Engineer. My Siblings Are all living With Me now and 3 Of them have All graduated from a local High School And Are living life On their Own. I believe That having a strong Mind and a a goal in life helps you achieve and be more successful! |

It was getting rough in Colombia. No money, no food, no life, no safety. So they decided to go to the U.S. First they had to get the money to go there. After Pedro work and got enough money for him to go to the U.S… He flew to México. When he got to México he walked in the desert. Then he jumped the fence. He got to Los Angeles! He was happy that he finally got to “the land of opportunities”. Now he had to get his kids and wife when he got enough money to bring them.
Now he had to start to work. Five months later he found a job cleaning airplanes. Five months passed and then he got enough money for his wife to come. He sent the money to Colombia. Pedro’s wife, Jessica was scared to come to the U.S... “At the time I wasn’t worried about the life I was going to have over there I was worried about what was going happen during the trip. But I thought to myself my kids need better then what I am going to give them by me working here .” She was worried about her kids living with her mother-in-law but they had to stay they were too young and they didn’t understand. As she left the house Jonny (her son which was 2 at the time) asked her where she was going. Jessica said she was going get him a mango! As she left she thought about her two kids. She got on a plane and left to México. When she went to México the coyote was waiting for her in a restaurant. There were three guys and she was the only girl. They got in the back of the car and she closed it. “It was very hard to breath! It was very tight!” Three hours it took .Then we relaxed. I looked out of the window and I saw borer patrol out side just driving around. I ran and told the coyote. She said ok all of ya’ll just stay low” She left then three hours later came back. She put us back in the back in the trunk. five hours past and finally they where safe. they where in los angeles. Pedro was waiting for her. Now they have three kids that are born in the U.S and the two boys still live in Colombia. |

The Dominican Republic has a lot of problems with immigration; also people die of drowning and sinking boats. Kids come to the United States to find a better future. When they grow up they can be wealthy and have their needs and wants met.
The transportation for the immigrants coming from the Dominican Republic have people that are from Puerto Rico who are United States citizens that are Hispanic to help them over just for money. Our independence is on February 27, 1837 we had won it from the people from Haiti. They fought for Independence and still don’t like each other. The United States has a lot of people in New York to Florida, and Chicago all these places have the most Dominican people immigrated from Puerto Rico. People come to see their families they have in these certain cities, they also want to get away from the weather in the Dominican Republic. My friend from the Dominican Republic migrated to Puerto Rico by him self to find a better future, he always saved his money for one day he can come and live the American dream of any Dominican child. He traveled here in a boat that many have people died when they migrated to the United States, when he maid it to sail he was with fear of getting caught by the United States coast guard and to be sent back for a lost of money. He found his relative in Puerto Rico and 1 month later his mother had came to Puerto Rico also with his two sisters, and they got on their feet and came to Houston, TX and found a better a future for him and his mom and sisters. The Dominican Republic main sport is Baseball, the united States have Dominican baseball players in the MLB. The players from the Dominican Republic are Sammy Sosa, Manni Ramirez, David Ortiz, and Jose Lima most of the people in the Dominican Republic see these athletes as heroes because they come to the United States for a better future. |
